Assyrian General during World War I. He was born in the Lower Baz village in the Hakarri Mountains. He completed his elementary education in his village school and went to Urmia to attend one of the European missionary schools. He spent three years in the United States and was well learned in the Assyrian, Turkish, Arabic, French, Persian, English, and Russian. Due to his language skills, he was employed as secretary by the Turkish Consulate in Urmia. In 1909 he was appointed Turkish Consul. He was exiled by British authorities in what is now Iraq and resided in Toulouse, France. On October 26, 1923 He participated in the League of Nations Peace Conference after which he died in France by Poison under suspicious circumstances.
After the assassination of Mar Shimon General Petros was voted in command of all Assyrian and Armenian forces in Urmia during WWI, his life experience and character had prepared him for this role in which he served with courage and determination. Frequently outnumbered and having no formal military training he managed to defeat the enemy making good use of the mountaineering skills of the Hakarri Assyrians and by using guerrilla style tactics... he never lost a battle. |
